Black Copper Marans Chicks

Black Copper Marans Chicks

PRE-ORDER SUMMER 2025

A minimum of six (6) chicks must be ordered. I try to add one extra. These are straight-run chicks that will come from my dark Black Copper Marans line. Some of the offspring will produce heavily speckled eggs and blooms. There is no guarantee that the offspring will lay the same dark eggs. Genetics is tricky and you must apply selective breeding practices to achieve your goals. I cull/sell many pullets after about their 30th egg. If by their 30th egg the color doesn't get darker, they are removed from my breeding program and sold. IF the color remains light but they have huge speckles, patterns or blotches, they are moved over to my Speckeled Marans Program or Back Cross Program.

Please look at ALL the pictues. I can ship up to 24 chicks in a USPS approved chick shipping box then you would have to purchase another Express Shipping.

***Chicks are shipped via USPS Express Prioity MailPlease add to your cart at checkout the Express Shipping Add-On.*** Your order will be cancelled if you don't add the $90.00 Express Shipping. Type "ADDED" in the NOTES at checkout.

A minimum of 4 chicks for pick-up.

Since so many people are unfamiliar with the breed. I do not guarantee the egg color off the offspring. Marans are a wild card. You may get some dark eggs and you may get some duds and everything in between. The genetic variables of this breed cannot be controlled as to what the hens will lay. Just because you hatch 12 eggs that are 7's, 8's or even 9's and you have 12 hens, it doesn't mean that all 12 of those hens will lay 7's, 8's or even 9's. You can have 3 sisters and one will lay a 9, one will lay a 5 and one will lay a heavy bloom. There is no control over what their genetics determine. It is up to you to decide what you are breeding for and cull as necessary. There is also a lot involved in testing your roosters. Just like the hens, not all roosters carry forward the dark egg genetics. There is a lot of selective breeding in Marans, that is why those deep colors are difficult to acheive and MAINTAIN! Many people jumping on the Marans bandwagon and buy into lines, are not able to consisstently provide those dark eggs year after year. Especially when they start adding in different genetics from different lines without testing them first.
