Frequently asked questions
A: At Burberry Homestead, we are thrilled to provide our customers with top-quality rainbow hatching eggs! For orders placed between February 6th and February 28th, 2025, shipping will occur in the Fall of 2025. Starting on September 1st, we will begin contacting customers in the order their purchases were made. We're committed to ensuring these orders are shipped expediently, with an aim to have all the February orders dispatched by the end of November 2025. Please note that there's a high volume of orders during this period, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to get your eggs to you as promptly as possible.
All orders placed after March 1, 2025 will be shipped over the winter of 2025/2026. We strive to ship year-round as long as our hens are laying eggs and weather conditions permit safe transport. To maintain the quality and viability of our hatching eggs, we utilize heat packs and recommend using UPS 2nd Day shipping. This method helps to minimize the transit time and ensures that your order arrives in optimal condition. Please note that extreme weather conditions may affect our shipping schedule, and we will keep you informed of any changes. Thank you for choosing Burberry Homestead for your hatching egg needs
We operate on a pre-order system due to high demand. You can purchase in advance and receive a delivery window. Orders are processed first-come, first-served. We'll contact you before shipping to confirm details. If you're not ready, we can arrange a more suitable date. Factors like weather, broodiness, or molting can affect production, so please be flexible. For 2025, orders placed between February 6th and February 28th will ship in Fall 2025. Orders after March 1st will ship in Winter 2025/2026. We ship year-round as long as hens are laying and weather permits. We use heat packs and recommend UPS 2nd Day shipping to ensure your eggs arrive in optimal condition. Extreme weather may affect the schedule, and we'll keep you informed of any changes.
Unfortunately, we do not sell only our darkest eggs. We do our best to get you a rainbow of eggs that will produce future rainbow layers for your egg basket. Please keep in mind that egg colors change throughout the seasons and the year. They are always darkest at the beginning of the laying season and many hens tend to lose "ink" in their ink jets causing the colors to fade. Many will lose their speckles and blooms too, but the genetics are still in there even though you cannot see them with your eyes. Eggs can change on a daily basis. Don't be discouraged if your dozen isn't what your hoped it would be. Especially with BackCrosses. They are hybrid birds and do not lay true. Each generation will lay a darker egg. The earlier generations make the later darker colors.
Please note that shipped hatching eggs come with inherent risks. While we take great care in packaging, we cannot guarantee hatch rates once the eggs leave our hands. Hatch rates can vary significantly across different incubators. We recommend conducting experimental hatches with less expensive eggs before using these. Darker eggs with thicker shells can be challenging to hatch, even for experienced hatchers. Be familiar with your incubator, ambient humidity, and optimal hatching conditions. We continuously monitor our hatch rates to ensure the health and productivity of our roosters and hens. If your eggs do not hatch, it does not necessarily mean they were not fertile. Various factors, including shipping conditions, can affect development. Shipping can be hard on eggs, especially depending on the handling of the package. The eggs can get shaken up and this causes the yolk and the white to mix together (scrambled) which hinders development. Another thing that can happen is the air sacs can get wonky, which will hinder development. If you are not prepared for the risks and potential disappointment of shipped eggs, we suggest purchasing chicks instead.
Once your hatching eggs leave our hands, we are no longer responsible for them. You'll receive a tracking number and need to follow up with UPS or USPS to locate your eggs. USPS guarantees delivery times only for Express Priority mail, not regular priority mail and that is now even iffy. If your eggs are delayed by 10 days or more, USPS generally won't honor a claim. However, Express Priority has a 1-2 day delivery window guarantee, and claims are usually honored. UPS always gets there. We have had minimal issues using UPS. Maintain a good relationship with your local post office and inform them when you're expecting eggs to ensure they are aware. Some post offices may NOT hold packages for pick-up or notify you upon arrival, so communicate with them directly.
If you need to contact us about an existing order, please reply to the order confirmation email or email us directly. Use the name under which the order was placed. To ensure we can track your order, include your invoice number in the email or subject line. We do not monitor Facebook or Instagram messages, as social media messages and direct emails can easily get lost due to the high volume of communications we receive daily.
