The egg colors my ladies produce are very vibrant and range from mint to teal and the occasional darker olive. My rooster Fabio has been tested for the blue egg gene and is Homozygous. We are slowly working on testing all the hens too and hope to have that accomplished by Spring of 2026. Additionally, Fabio hails from heavily speckled lines (see the photos of his hatch mate siblings). My hens are mostly black and splash. I do have a bunch of grow-outs that are splash and blue/grey but they won't be ready until 2026. You can learn all about the Silverrudd's Blu heritage breed here.

My Silverrudd's hail from second imports. The first imports are more SOP but the issue was that they had so many respiratory issues from over breeding. This is why so many people have a difficult time keeping them alive whether they are chicks or hatching eggs. I chose second imports that are very robust in heath but have some flaws, for example, their egg colors are "bluer" than the typical olive color they are known for. I brought in a rooster that is more in line with the correct egg color and my goal is to start working towards those characteristics in future generations. Additionally, I have five splash hens from one of my friends lines. Right now these ladies are very strong layers and have zero heath issues. They lay pretty close to an egg a day. They are champion layers and their eggs are some of the prettiest eggs I have seen, even though they are more blue/teal than green.

I love Silverrudd's that carry heavy speckling genetics and pairing that to a heavily speckled brown layer, like a Welsummer, to make some of the prettiest F1OE's and the start to an awesome foundation to your BackCross Olive Egger program. I actually love the raven colored Black and the Splash Silverudd's. While the birchen in the hackles isn't prefered, it is accepted and the majority of my hens are raven black but a few have some birchen in their hackles -- I actually think it makes them really stunning.

Silverudds are good foragers, predator savvy, hardy in both heat and cold, and excellent layers. They are good with people but tend to mind their own business. The roosters are great flock leaders and very gentle, and hens don't often go broody, all characteristics you want in your F1OE hyrbrids and BackCross Olive Egger programs.

This is a selection of 12 eggs + 2 extra of whatever is available that day. These are a pretty combination of a variety of different shades of green the Silverudd's are known for. Some have light speckles or frosted/white speckling.

This price includes shipping. I can ship 1 dozen (12 eggs). I prefer UPS over USPS. UPS ground and USPS are included in the price. You can upgrade to UPS 2-Day Air or 3 Day Select if you are far away. I include 2 extra of whatever is available that day. These are shipped in Egg Foam Shippers and double boxed. If you choose USPS, I include "HOLD FOR PICKUP" and the phone number you provided on the invoice. This does NOT guarantee that the Post Office will call you. YOU need to go and speak to them and let them know you want to pick it up. You can purchase heat packs here

Restoring my happy one chick at time

Devon Steele

6 months ago I went through a horrible divorce resulting in the loss of my pet chickens (they were housed at my MIL’s) I loved my birds endlessly. They were my happy place in this fast paced California life. I was so sad and depressed. I missed them every single day and missed hearing their precious chicken sounds. After a couple months, I decided I wanted to forge forward and start rebuilding. I had never ordered chicks or eggs online- I’d been following BH for quite some time and was obsessed with their eggs and birds. I reached out to get some new babies. They were so patient with my traumatic story and all of my anxiety surrounding it. A few short weeks later, it was time for them to send my babies. I don’t think I’ve been that nervous in a long time. I was so neurotic during the shipping days- I think I’d have told myself to take a chill pill haha- yet- I got all the reassurance. All 11 of my new babies arrived to CA alive and healthy. 5 stars isn’t enough! They deserve infinity
